The Legacy Jazz Festival is presented by
The North East Florida Jazz Association, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

Presented by, the North East Florida Jazz Association, Inc., a Non-Profit Organization.       Support for this event provided by the City of Palm Coast, Florida     Advertising & PR by Hardison & Associates, LLC.

In May 1986, "Jeep" and Muriel McCoy contacted the memberships of various organizations within Palm Coast requesting lovers of Jazz to meet at their home on a specified date. Forty people responded to the request. All agreed that their love for music in general and their affection for Jazz in particular, was strong enough to warrant the formation of an organization. That organization has become known as the North East Florida Jazz Association (NEFJA). Musicians, students of music and others who loved Jazz, but were themselves non-performers, decided to take on the task of educating the public as to the value of understanding and preserving this valuable, rich western world's only original art form.

Dear Friends,

The North East Florida Jazz Association (NEFJA) is proud to present Legacy Jazz Festival ’08.  As a grassroots jazz society comprised of 300 jazz lovers from New Smyrna Beach to St. Augustine, we’re proud of the fact that this marks our third annual festival celebrating jazz, America’s unique art form. We’re also proud that for more than 20 years, we have been able to make live world-class jazz performances accessible to Northeast Florida audiences. And, we’re especially proud that we’ve provided $27,000 in scholarships to talented students enrolled in Jazz Studies programs at Florida colleges and universities. That’s our mission. That’s why NEFJA exists.

Jazz is an endangered art. As jazz lovers, we take our responsibility to preserve, promote and perpetuate one of our country’s greatest cultural achievements very seriously. Whenever there’s a downturn in the economy, the arts suffer. And that’s when it’s even more important that those who truly appreciate the freedom, creativity and passion of jazz do what we can to save the music for today and for future generations.

Thank you for supporting the North East Florida Jazz Association and for helping keep the music alive.

Muriel D. McCoy
President

With the downturn in the economy, the arts are the first to lose funding, both public and private.  From arts and music programs in schools to lack of discretionary income for those piano lessons – few fortunate kids can afford to play musical instruments and further their passion by enrolling in college conservatories.

On the upside, Jazz is and always has been a great equalizer, effortlessly blurring the lines between inner city and suburbs, the haves and have nots, races and generations.  But the future of Jazz, too, is now uncertain, and hinges on the support of those who believe that we have an obligation to preserve this endangered art form for future generations.  The best way to ensure that Jazz outlives us is through empowering talented young musicians of today.  NEFJA to date has donated over 27,000 towards college scholarships and we are pleased to welcome some of our previous scholarship winners on stage at the LEGACYJazz Fest 08.

NEFJA’s mission and objectives are in harmony with the objectives of the American Federation of Jazz Societies and the International Association of Jazz Education.  Our focus has always been on not only bringing high quality jazz performances to this area, but also promoting this uniquely American Art Form to the next generation of musicians and music lovers.  We accomplish this by hosting jazz clinics in local schools and raising funds to provide scholarships to worthy young musicians enrolled in music programs at regional universities.

To date, over 27,000 in scholarships has been awarded to talented students, and countless jazz performances were made available to local audiences.  Our achievements could not have been possible without our members, currently at over 300 and growing.  Our members enjoy a monthly newsletter with updates on upcoming concerts and other cultural events, as well as substantial discounts on tickets, trips to various festivals and the knowledge that they are keeping the legacy of JAZZ alive and well for future generations.
